Tagore’s Contribution in I.W.E

Tagore’s   Contribution  in  I.W.E

Introduction:

Rabindranath Tagore  was the Multi-Dimensional figure of the india. He belongs to unquestionably too indo  Anglian  literature too -indeed he belongs to all india and whole world.
He was a Poet, Dramatist, actor, producer; he was a musician and a painter; he was an  educationalist, a practical  idealistic who turned his  dreams into reality  at Shantiniketan he was a performer, philosopher,
Prophet; he was a novelist and short-story  writer, and a Critic of life and literature; he was even made occasional incursion into nationalist politics, although he was essentially an internationalist.

His Life:

The youngest of seven sons , he was born on 6 May 1861. His father Maharshi  Debendranath was the power behind the  Brahmo samaj in its palmy days. Affluence and aristocratic culture surrounded him, and he grew up keenly alive and awake to the world around him. Tagore passed away on 6 Aug 1941.

So,  Analyse  Rabindranath Tagore as the Playwright in detail…..

“ In the other words, the spirit the intellect and the life impulse
All  functioning  at the highest pitch and working in the closet  Collaboration ”

Tagore as the Playwright:

Rabindranath Tagore  with his extraordinary nexus of talent and gifts As a poet, playwright, philosopher, painter, composer, novelist, short story writer, and Reconciler of indigenous and foreign Tradition, may be said to examplify  it’s climax  and has rightly been hailed as

“ The  Leonardo da Vinci of the Indian Renaissance ”

It is said that  Tagore wrote his first characteristic  play; ‘Sanyasi ‘
Or the Ascetic while holidaying at karwar on the west coast of india. There has been a long and faithful Dramatic Tradition  in india , and Tagore was familiar with it. He was a gifted actor himself, and he was  eager to give a new tone to the try  his  hand at drama like them yet it could not like them.

A play needs a plot, even as a house needs  a farm structure. Tagore could start the play, strike the opening chords, name the character,  and memory and imagination would do the rest. Not logic of careful  plotting but the Music of ideas and symbols  is the Soul of Drama. Tagore also wrote number of plays and same of them are under…..

o   Sanyasi or Ascetic
o   The King and the Queen
o   Sacrifice
o   Malini
o   Chitra
o   Karan and Kunti
o   Chandalika
o   Mukti-Dhara
o   Natir-Puja

Sanyasi

The Sanyasi is indeed redeemed .it is not life that is the enemy  of man,  mind and  soul. True love, far from binding  can  emancipate   and enlarge, Love is the Everlasting  that liberates, purifies  and  intensifies  human understanding and reveals  infinity  in  grain  of sand, and heaven in a flower.

‘The Sanyasi ‘by withdrawing from the world  as  he  thinks,  has merely developed    a negative  virtue. Salvation comes   however, not from negation, but from wise acceptance, purification and inner Transformation.   Actually   ‘Sanyasi ‘  was the story  that deals with the we can  say the  conflict between Truth and  Beauty and between Reason and Love, between Rejection and Acceptance.

The King  and The Queen

‘The king  and  The  Queen ‘  is  the  play  of  Love  and  Beauty . The king  is  spiritually   and  morally blind  in the  play .The  Queen in  the later  and  the blindness   in  either case is the result  of  their  self-centeredness,  their  inability   to  make  love  a  wholesome force instead of  contracting   to  more self-love.

“ Revenge  is  stronger  than the  thin win of love ,
Revenge is freedom, freedom from the coils of cloying sweetness ”

Chandalika

In  ‘ Chandalika ‘  the  untouchable girl , Prakriti  falls  in  love  with  Ananda, Buddha’s youngest   and  best  loved  disciple.  When  he chances  to meet her near a well . A few   kind  understanding   words  set   aflame  herself respect, and  she  is now   his  slave  though  he  has  gone  far away  . But  Prakriti’s  love  is  a devouring  fever  desire, and  she  persuades  her  mother  to work  the  primordial  earth  spell  on Ananda so  that  he may   returns  and  quench  the  raying  fever . The  conflict  between  the  desire  of the flesh  and the  aspirations of the   soul  have  most  effectively been conveyed  to us.

Gandhari’s Prayer:

‘Gandhari’s  Prayer ‘  is a study  of Mother and  her Son. The great and magnanimous  mother of  the  Kurus  and her eldest ill-fated son, Duryodhana . both  Dhritrashtra  is  wrong ; but  father  comes  promises  , while Gandhari  will not. She is  great  character . she has a clear  vision  of the  doom  to  come and she speaks  as the mother of the sorrow.

The  King of the Dark Chamber:

The king  of the Dark chamber  is overpowering  as drama and reawakening  in  it’s  spiritual insight. This  play is about a woman with a sick soul;  the King  visits  the dark chamber of the Queen’s Heart , and all is well , and  the  king  visits the  sick chamber of the little boy , and all is well again.

The  Post Office:

The  Post  Office  is  one of   play  written by Tagore.  The  Post Office has a tighter  structural  unity  and it’s  meaning  comes to us likae  deep  dream   of  peace.  The Post Office is about  a child  with  a  sick body. This  play deal  with  the soul’s adventure in the  divine ; and  the adventure s in the   divine  ; and the   adventure  leave  the  soul  as well  as the  body  cured.

In  all three  plays - ‘ Malini  ’, ‘ Natir Puja ’ and  ‘Chandalika ’  the  stress  is one of  the  spiritual action  in  symbolic  terms  behind  the physical humans means  Action  in human  terms.  In ‘Karana and Kunti ’ Tagore  snaps  to another pair, another mother and another ill fated son.  Karana’s  concluding  words  show his humanity  and  magnanimity . Another  play  with a  political slant,  ‘Must-Dhara’ is  sometimes  referred to  as   Tagore’s greatest play.

Tagore  as  a  Novelist

Tagore’s  novels  are essentially   related  to  his age  and  it becomes  necessary  to understand  the  spirit  of  the time  in which he lived  to get a proper   perspective for  evaluating  his  achievements  as a novelist. Tagore   wrote  some novels, which  were  famous  and even more  red able  today .
          Let’s  see  his  novels…..

o   ‘Binodini ’
o   ‘The  Wreck ’
o   ‘Gora ’
o   ‘Two sister ’
o   ‘Four Chapter ’
o   ‘The Golden’

Gora: Dynamics  of  Syncretism

The most  widely  acclaimed  novel  of  Rabindranath  Tahore , ‘Gora ’ Represents  his  most  ambitious efforts   at  Projecting    image  of india  which  is, at one historical  . Beside  being perhaps  the most  complete  picture  of the  life  of Bengal towards  the end of last century.

Tagore’s masterstroke   lies  in  his choice  ‘Gora ’ the  founding  child of  an  Irish-English  couple  Murdered in the Indian sepoy  mutiny  as the  passionate  advocate  of  the Hindu  revivalist nationalism . Though   Gora’s identity   is hidden from him  till the very  end, it’s  revealed  to the  Reader  at  very  beginning  of  the novel . Hence  the quality  of  irony  gets built  into the narrative , right  at the  start,  thus presenting  as ironical perspective  in which  the  protagonist ’s mistaken  identity  and  resultant  confusion and  embarrassment  the very absurdity   of the  premises   on which  the purity  of Hinduism  is sought to be asserted .

The novel’s  main plot concern  with  Gora’s attitude ,belief and conception and  with  his  attempts  at  upholding  them  against  disillusioning  experiences        and  the final  discovery  of  truth  about himself  whereas  the  Binky-Lolita sub plot  bring  into  focus  the Hindu-Brahmo  conflicts . the main incidents  of the  plot serve  as  landmark  in the  Protagonist’s  journey  of  Self  Discovery.

The Home and The World: Parameters  of self-Emancipation

The home and the world  unfolds  the  trial  and tribulation  of a home , caught up in the convulsion  of a political struggle , with profound  implication for the individual  and the nation alike. The  action of  the novel is  predicted   on two movements - one , an inward  movement  towards the  projection of the  home as a world in miniature and the other, an outwards  movement  towards   the  perspectivization  of the  world  as a larger  home, a greater  home as it were .

Actually  the dominant theme  of the novel  is the triangular  Relationship  involving  with the  character Nikhil, Bimla ,  and sandip  and the  swadeshi  movement  activities  and the  complicate the relationship between these character  highlighting  the tension and conflict between home and the world.a

Choker Bali:

Choker Bali  is the  story of the Rich, Flamboyant Mahendra  and his simple, demure beautiful wife, Asha a young couple who are befriended by the pragmatic Bihari. We can say it is the story of an extramarital affair  that take place within the confines if join family.

Two sisters : Postulate of Feminine Dualism

Rabindranath Tagore’s novella , ‘Two Sisters’ premised  on the traditional and universal postulate of the dual image of woman as a mother and beloved- promised by him  in symbolc form in his poem entitled ‘Two women’.
Tagore  restates the view, minus the  myth at the beginning  of the novella the seeming dualism through the two sister Sarmila and  Urmila assigned respectively the roles of wife and beloved .

Binodini: Dialect of Self-Affirmation

As the forerunner of a new genre in Indian fiction, Rabindranath Tagore’s first major novel, ‘Binodini’ ,has rightly received  much attention from the critic. Actually it has been hailed as the first modern novel by an Indian author.
It’s about the Binodini , is a beautiful, accomplished, and tutored by an English misonary lady , her marriage can not be performed as her father did not leave sufficient money for a dowry.
Tagore traces  the changing  patterns on Bihari Binodini relationship with great psychological  society.

The Wreck:

The novel dramatizes  the social  and emotional imbroglio that result  from the accidental exchange of bride, a situational not  entirely unknown even modern times as the bride and bridegroom. Though novel ends  with the affirmation  of  marital sanctity.

Moreover, Rabindranath  Tagore’s novel  would  actually  recreate  the image  of perception  of  women  Dramatically  . In his novels, generally  the  lead  protagonist  was  female. He  always  presented  woman in the form of  social independency, power and  intelligence.

Rabindranarh  Tagore  as  a Poet

Worldwide, ‘ Gitanjali ’ is  Tagore’s  best known selection  of poetry . Tagore  was  granted  the Nobel Award  in 1913  for his guide ‘Gitanjali’ . Tagore  always  tried  to different  graceful  design. Later with  growth of  new  graceful  concepts in Bengal many via young  romantics looking for a crack  with
Tagore’s  design . Tagore  consumed  new  graceful principles , which permitted  him  further   create an  exclusive  identification . illustration of  this  consists  of  African  American and Camellia which  are  among the better  known on his poetry.

Much  of Tagore writing  is only a kind  of mellifluous  musing or even lost, quote his own words…,

“ In the endless  mist  of  Vague   sweetness ”
Even  his expression  of  ecstasy is apt  to  diffuse,  and the  diffuseness  is  the more  obvious  when we have his work.

As  we know  that  Tagore  has  a skill  that  he  write a poem  in number  of  collection , it  means  Tagore  has a lot’s of subjects  for his poetry.

Tagore’s  poetry   which varied  in style  from classical  formalism  to the  comic, visionary and ecstatic  proceed  out a lineage  established
By 15 -16 century  via poets  . Tagore  was  also influenced   by the  mysticism  of  the  authors  who including  vaysa  wrote  the  Upanishads  he Bhkta-Sufi  mystic  Kabir and   Ramprasad.

Tagore’s poetry  became most  innovative  and  nature  after  his exposure  to rural  Bengal’s  folk music  which,  included  ballad s  sung  by folk  singe . During  his  Shelia year  , his  poem took  lurical  quality ,speaking via the  maner manus .(“ Living  God within”).  This  kind of  divinity   through  appeal   to  nature  and  the  emotional interplay   of  human drama.  Tagore  use  various  kinds  of  techniques  in  his  poems, there  is  fine  example  of  the  poem ‘ Banish ha’ which  chronicle  the  Romanticism  between Radha   amd  Krishna , which  he  repeatedly  Revised  over  over  the  course  of  seventy  years.

“I  seem to have loved  you  in numberless  forms,
Numberless  times, in  life after  life, In age  after  age  forever .”
